EXCERPT: Claimed by Three

RebeccaAiries_ClaimedbyThree_banner

So it’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks.  The release of the Sherlock Holmes anthology has been an awesome wave, but now that the swells have calmed, its time to get back to brass tacks.  In the spirit of that, I wanted to feature a new book, Claimed by Three by Rebecca Airies.  I often like to excerpt books here on The Belle that I’m chomping at the bit to read for myself because after all– sharing is caring.  And we could all use some caring and stories of love these days.  So here’s a little excerpt for your enjoyment—

Sephanie wiped down the counter as closing time approached. She looked up when the door chime sounded. She saw three men entering the store. She recognized them immediately. Kassius, Teague, and Berenger. Since they were here, she’d guess Kassius’s father had a talk with them. She sighed and rested her hand on the dark blue countertop.

Damn, this was going to be awkward. She bit her lip and waited. They strode across the bakery. It was empty, so there was no one to overhear. She didn’t want to hear them apologize.

She couldn’t stop herself from letting her gaze wander over their bodies. All three men’s gazes were locked on her. Berenger’s black hair hung around his face. He looked like he’d been more than a few days without a shave. The dark hair at his jaw was longer than normal. He’d probably been extremely busy at his skimmer repair shop.

She’d noticed if he was busy, he would let his beard go a little wild. That

untamed look sent a thrill through her. Muscled, strong, and in shape from hard work, he led the way over to the counter. He didn’t look happy, but he wasn’t obviously angry.

“Hello, Sephanie. I think we need to talk.” Berenger placed his palms on the counter.

“This isn’t necessary.” She tried to forestall the coming apology. “I know what you’re going to say.”

“I doubt you do.” Kassius eased up alongside Berenger and braced an arm on the countertop.

His blue eyes sparkled with some emotion she couldn’t quite read. He was solid, muscular, and strong. Berenger and Teague were also fit and brawny. Kassius’s came from hard physical work in his groves and winery. In contrast, the jut of his high cheekbones and his aquiline nose gave him a refined look. His blond hair hung past his shoulders.

“I realize your father probably talked to you, but there’s no need for this.” She shook her head.

She glanced at Teague when he stopped on the other side of the counter. Teague epitomized the hard training and rough life of the PD. The sharp angles of his jaw and the lean muscles of his body reminded her of a warrior ready for battle. His black hair was short, but shaggy at the moment. He’d probably been growing it out since the regulations for PD on planet were much more relaxed than while they were in space. His light brown skin gleamed and tempted her to reach out and touch him.

“Yes, there is a need for it. We didn’t know you heard our conversation or you misunderstood what we were talking about that day.” Teague leaned closer to the counter. “We didn’t mean it in the way you took it.”

She glared at him. “I misunderstood? What other way could you mean it?”

“We didn’t like guarding you from possible danger, because you might be hurt by it. Yes, we had better things to do than sitting there keeping our distance. We wished we could take you out on dates and get closer to you, but we had to wait. We couldn’t keep our objectivity and watch over you if we became involved with you.” Teague reached over, cupped her chin, and gently turned her head until she looked at him.

She swallowed hard. She wanted to believe them, maybe too much. Without a doubt, she’d had feelings for them since she’d met them. She wanted to take the chance on them.

Although their appearance drew her eyes, it didn’t keep her attention. Their personalities and interactions together did that. She liked the way they backed one another up and always seemed to be there for friends and family. Sephanie came from a family with strong ties. That type of behavior was an important part of what she wanted from a relationship.

“We intend to court you, Sephanie.” Kassius stretched across the counter and clasped her hand. “Please come out from behind there.”

“You intend to court me? You don’t know me.” With a nod, she let him draw her down the counter and out from behind it. She pursed her lips to keep from smiling. She’d wanted to hear they were interested for a long time.

They stood in front of her but didn’t crowd her. She appreciated that. Even though she longed for physical closeness, they had some things to clear out of the way first.

Lydia Tempris had a brush with death and returned to tell the tale. Instead of seeing a white light, she was escorted by two cloaked figures. Months later she happens upon them once more, but before she can ask them any questions, they disappear.

Kiernan and Joshua are lovers and grim reapers. Together they escort certain souls to the other side. Whenever Lydia shows up, they both have a gut twisting reaction to her. One day, she catches them off guard. Kiernan wants nothing to do with her, but Joshua has been intrigued with her since day one. Defying his lover, Joshua visits her and answers her questions only to find himself attracted to her. Kiernan tries to fight his feelings for Lydia, but in the end he realizes he needs her in his life.

With Halloween approaching, Lydia finds herself falling for both grim reapers. Her best friend has been cooking something up that will shatter everything Lydia knows. Kiernan and Joshua will do anything to save the woman they love even risk their very souls.

NEW RELEASE!! Strange Bedfellows: Dead Sexy

BehindTheRedDoor_72dpi

Good afternoon, friends!  I’m so happy to be here pimping my own book for a change.  I know, it doesn’t happen often.  I’ll try not to let it go to my head.  Anyway, you know how I’ve been writing that series for Mocha Memoirs Press, Strange Bedfellows?  Well, I finally managed to finish the third installment!  Cali and sexy vampires Andre and Leo are up to more shenanigans in this one.  There’s a walk through Hell, a zombie speed dating party and evil attack spiders with baby faces.  A new character is also introduced, Seth, a fallen angel that is in desperate need of Cali’s help to save his soul.  It was a total surprise to me when he showed up, but my muse seems to want to be in everything these days (ahem… paging #BenedictCumberbatch).  Anyway, here’s a little excerpt since y’all are my friends…

****

“Hello,” she said softly.  Her voice wavered a little but strangely she found that she wasn’t afraid.  Not like before.  Perhaps she was bewitched, but her mind was quiet.  “Who’s there?”  No one spoke, but she could feel the warmth of a body close by.  She knew he was male, she could smell him.  A light scent of leather, cool mint and a light musk permeated the air and Cali couldn’t help but shiver.  She wanted him to come closer, but she was afraid to ask.  She should be frightened.  Panicking that some stranger was watching her, taking in every naked inch of her flesh, but she wasn’t.  She wanted him to look and in fact, could feel herself arching slightly and thrusting her breasts into view.  “Is it you, Necromancer?” she hissed.  “Standing there in the dark, wanting me but afraid to touch?  I can smell you, you know.  The scent of your desire is pungent, Sir.”  Cali inhaled deeply, a seductive smile crossing her ruby lips as she took in the masculine aroma.  She shuddered, her body responding almost involuntarily.  He hadn’t even touched her and already she could feel the dewy pearls of wetness forming at her center.  “Has it been so long? So long since you felt the touch of a warm, living body that hasn’t been poisoned by your obsession?”

Her visitor still did not speak, but she could feel him coming closer.  The bed bounced lightly as he sat down beside her, still just staring.  She could hear him breathe, slow and even, trying to hide any note of his own arousal, but it was too practiced.  Cali grinned, knowing that she was having some effect.  The stranger reached down, his arm lightly touching hers as he leaned forward.  This time Cali did gasp, as the sound she heard at first was unrecognizable.  Then it dawned on her that there was water being poured from some vessel into a bowl.  A heavy, liquid sound that was just beside her ear.  She would have expected it to be cold, but she could feel some kind of warmth emanating from whatever basin the liquid was being poured into.  The pouring ended in a slow dripping and the basin was brought across and laid by her side on the bed.  She could hear it sloshing around and she tried not to move.  If she spilled the contents, her strange host might be angry and in her current predicament, that could be exceptionally bad.

The light scent of lavender and cherry bark wafted through the room on a still breeze.  Slow dripping, warm water over hot flesh.  Cali gasped as the drops hit one by one across her chest.  Almost deliberately they beaded just over the curve of each breast and then slid down lazily to heavenly valleys below her sternum.  A single bead alighted on the rose point of each nipple.  They hardened immediately, as if reaching out for the source of the wet heat.  Cali wanted to moan, but she bit down on her lip hard enough to bring blood, afraid that if she made a sound that this delicious sensation would end.  Whoever was with her had perfect control and knew just how high to place the drops so that the warm, scented liquid kissed each erogenous zone as he continued this gradual, sweet Chinese water torture.  A dotted path led the way down the curve of her belly to the subtle dip of her navel.  Her captor dribbled more of the warm water into the tiny cup until it spilled over and began to gently flow down the slope and into the nest of fine, downy curls that hid her femininity.  This time she gasped. She couldn’t help it.  She pulled at her bonds, lost in the delayed pleasure and frantic desire.  “Touch me,” she rasped, but still he did not speak.  Only the sound of the basin being moved aside would answer her command.

****

Wasn’t that just hotter than summer in Calcutta?  Yeah, I thought so too.  So now, here’s the good news— if you haven’t read the first two stories, you can get them separately for #99cents on Kindle until July 20th.  BUT, to get all three stories, including the newest installment, “Dead Sexy,” you can get all three collected for just $4.99!  The collection is also available in #paperback for those of you that want something to take on the beach.  Don’t forget to read, review, tweet and share with your friends!  That’s right… pimp it!!

Wicked After Dark: Blurb-a-palooza!

Click me to hop to the next blog!

Well hey there kids!  I’ve decided today to give you some blurbs to whet your appetite and let you know a little about me and what I do.  My fiction has been called a bit unusual by some.  I never liked romance as a younger woman because I always felt that the stories were so sicky-sweet, too good to be true.  I just couldn’t relate to the characters, but I did like the hot-blooded romance aspet of it.  So when I started writing, I was determined to write the kind of romance that I’d like to read.  One that isn’t sicky sweet and unbelievable, but one with imperfect heroines and dangerous heroes.  I’ve always loved anything paranormal and spooky, so paranormal romance seemed the way to go.  Of course I couldn’t just stop there– I had to make sure that the story was laced with explicit scenes of really hot monkey-lovin’.  Cuz well… that’s the most fun to write.  So I’m going to give you an offering of some of my darkest paranormal romances and you can decide for yourself.

Strange Bedfellows:  Three to Tango

All Things Wicked and Dark

CLICK ME to visit the Blog Hop Link List!

I thought I’d kick off my series of posts with a countdown of my favorite wicked indulgences.  Kind of like that song from the Sound of Music, but dirtier.  No, there will be no raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens, but more of a countdown of all the Spooky and Wicked things that I like best.  So on with the show….

1)       The Lost Boys:  It’s not Halloween at my house until I sit down on the couch with my popcorn and coke and watch The Lost Boys.  It’s my all- time favorite movie.  It’s got everything:  horror, humor, sexy vampires that actually eat people.  In fact, I’m quite certain that if Edward Cullen sparkled in David’s general direction, he’d tear the whiny bitch’s heart out and eat it in front of him.

2)      Zombie Pin-up Girls:  As anyone will tell you, I aspire to be a part-time pin-up someday.  And my favorite style is kind of a mashup of the traditional 50s style with a bit of horror element.  Think Bettie Page meets Suicide Girl.  Zombie Pin-ups give a whole new meaning to Trick or Treat.

3)      Goth Playlist Mixed with Sound FX:  Part of the fun of a Halloween party is to create atmosphere.  Music is the best way to do that and I have a lot of favorite things I like to play at Halloween:  The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, Bella Morte, Unto Ashes, The Shroud—all of them will be especially spooky with a few scary sound effects mixed in.  And of course there’s all those Halloween favorites:  Thriller, Theme from Ghostbusters, Somebody’s Watchin’ Me, The Time Warp.  Al of these things can work together to give you chills in all the right places.

4)      Books of Horror and Suspense:  Before writer, I am always a reader.  Since learning to read at age four, I’ve been a consumer of books.  And almost from the beginning I’ve been a fan of all things dark and terrifying.  My first foray into horror was probably the classic Alvin Schwartz Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.  The illustrations in the first editions of that book were so creepy that they’ve since had to change them because they were deemed to be too scary for children.  Since then I’ve moved on to Poe, Stephen King, Joe Hill, Peter Straub, and countless others.  Which brings me to the purpose of this blog hop….

If you like a little romance with your horror, I would like to offer a little bit of my newest book Strange Bedfellows:  Three to Tango.  This series has it all, vampires, zombies, sex, violence, blood… all the biggies.  But don’t take my word for it—let the excerpt speak for itself…

***************

“How I would love to taste you, ma chère,” he whispered, leaning over to kiss her, then changing his mind and licking her lips.  She whimpered and raised her body, desperate to feel his mouth against hers, but he was having none of it.  André teased her with sweeps of his tongue and little nips of his teeth.  “But I wouldn’t want to spoil you.  Your warmth is a gift to feel against my body.”

“We’ve waited so long for you, Caliope,” Leo added, standing by the bed and carefully unbuttoning his shirt.  “A beautiful…warm…human lover…”  As he said this, he pulled the shirt away from his shoulders, exposing his torso.  Her eyes followed the contour of his chest, every muscle formed perfectly beneath the pale skin.  Every molecule of her body cried out to touch him, but she kept still, almost afraid.  She clenched her fists at her sides, her whole body rigid.   André reclined beside her, taking her hand and pressing her wrist to his lips, and he began kissing gently along her arm.  Cali watched him, fascinated by the beauty of his skin and the glow of his eyes as he examined every inch of her.

Leo laughed, sweeping her hair away from her brow.  “I believe you’ve already bewitched our André.  Of course, he’s French and they’re a bit extreme when it comes to love.  They positively smother.”  Leaning down, he kissed her forehead, and she could feel his eyelashes flutter against her skin.

“But why…” she breathed, trying not to notice as André’s fingertips began to trill across her collarbone.  “Why would you want me?  I’m just a plain Jane…pathetic…nothing…” Her chin trembled as her voice cracked and the tears sprung to the corners of her eyes.  “An idiot like Gavin didn’t even want me.”

André didn’t let her finish, pulling her to him roughly and attacking her lips with a crushing kiss.  “You will be ours now.  The past is forgotten.”

“What a pretty pet,” Leo whispered, letting his hands roam along the curve of her hip.  “There is nothing left for you out there now, love.  Let us take care of you.”  With that he leaned over, kissing the dent where her torso met her pelvis.  Soft, gentle kisses at first and then suggestive sweeps of his tongue that slid along her skin.  She lay back between them, feeling their hands everywhere at once.  She couldn’t believe she was being so reckless.  Allowing two strangers…two strangers who had already admitted that they were vampires…to caress and kiss her naked body.  Not that she had anything to live for.  Her life for the last several weeks had been misery at best.  If they were willing to offer such pleasure, she would gladly sacrifice herself to their lust.  Her head lolled to one side, watching Leo as he moved up to kiss her throat.  She bit her lip, preparing herself for the inevitable piercing of skin as he bit her, but after several moments he pulled away, licking his lips and staring down into her face.  “You look so frightened, love.  But you’ve nothing to fear,” Leo whispered.

André chuckled and brushed his fingertip over the crest of her cheek.  “The poor thing thinks we’re going to feed from her.”

“Aren’t you?” Cali whispered, her eyes fluttering closed as André leaned over, taking the cuff of her ear between his teeth and nibbling with the lightest of caresses.

“Only if you ask nicely,” Leo purred, stroking the pads of his fingers along her jugular vein.  “Not that you aren’t quite a tempting treat.  Your blood races so fast, pulsing deep beneath your skin.  So warm and wet—like liquid fire oozing down my throat.”
