Hey kids!  I haven’t featured a new release on The Belle in quite a while, so I thought– what the hell.  And boy did I pick a scorcher this time.  My friend and colleague at Ellora’s Cave, Tina Donahue, has just released her latest, Erotic Takeover.  It’s a story about the curvaceous and beautiful Jodi who is longing for the attention of her boss, sexy photographer Mac.  Take a look at this smoldering excerpt and I promise you’ll want to read more…

***********************

True to his word, Mac didn’t touch her in any inappropriate places while he strolled the aisles, pulling boxes and cans off the shelves, reading the ingredients as if he’d never done anything like this before.

Jodi suspected he hadn’t, finding her life an adventure he’d never had to face. For someone like him, it was a fun challenge to budget money, clip coupons, search for all the specials. At least until it became a bore, which would happen eventually.

Her heart cramped at the thought that this would be their first and last grocery trip together. Never had she wanted him more. He was so damn hot and adorable. Like a little boy with his first puzzle, trying to put all the pieces together.

Bent at the waist, Mac studied the store labels beneath the spaghetti sauces. Each showed the cost-per-ounce comparison between the brands.

Two middle-aged women reached past him for their choices. He apparently didn’t notice.

They stared at his luscious profile then gave Jodi the once over, dismissing her as though she had nothing to do with him. She could read their thoughts in their expressions—a hottie like him surely wouldn’t be with someone like her.

Sighing, Jodi checked the time. They’d been here forty minutes already. Mac looked as though he could go all night at this.

“This one,” he said, tapping the bottle of Prego. “It’s three cents cheaper than the other—wait, I think we have a coupon.” He checked his iPhone and beamed as if he’d just inherited Garner’s. “Fifty cents off. Awesome. I’m adding it to your shopping cart.” He put the Prego in her basket. “Where’s the cheap wine?”

“Why?”

“We can’t have spaghetti without booze. What kind of cook are you?”

Jodi lifted her shoulders, her mind stuck on how he’d said “we”, as though they were a couple…or maybe just friends. That had to be it. Mac had fun when he was with her, just as he would with a guy, with the added bonus of sex.

“You can’t cook?” he finally said then sighed. “Looks as if tonight’s on my shoulders.”

“You’re going to make a meal for us?”

“Sure. How hard can it be? If I hit a problem, I’ll Google it on my phone or call Joe.”

She frowned. “Who’s Joe?”

“The chef at Garner’s. Great guy. He can talk me through anything.”

Jodi laughed. “You do know there are cooking instructions on the packages.”

Mac picked up the box of spaghetti. His eyebrows lifted as he read the directions.

God, he was beautiful when he was clueless. “Do you eat out for every meal?”

“Nope.” He tossed the box back in her cart. “I get delivery or takeout sometimes.”

“You don’t even have coffee at your place?”

“There’s a Starbucks less than a mile away.” He leaned into her and murmured, “That’s why God made them, for guys like me.”

Wow, he really was a virgin at this. Tonight was going to be something.

Whew… I think I need a Mac in my life.  Here’s a bit more about Tina…

I’m an award-winning, bestselling novelist in erotic, paranormal, contemporary and historical romance for Kensington, Samhain Publishing, Ellora’s Cave, Siren Publishing, Booktrope, and indie. Yay! Booklist, Publisher’s Weekly, Romantic Times and numerous online sites have praised my work, and trust me, I’m forever grateful for that. I’ve had my books reach finals in the EPIC competition, one title was named Book of the Year at a review site, and others have won awards in RWA-sponsored contests. I’m actually featured in the 2012 Novel & Short Story Writer’s Market. Talk about feeling like a freaking star. Before my writing career, I was the editor of an award–winning Midwestern newspaper and worked in Story Direction for a Hollywood production company. Outside of being an admitted and unrepentant chocoholic, I’ve flown a single-engine plane (scary stuff), rewired an old house using an electricity for dummies book, and have been known to moan like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally whenever I’m eating anything Mexican or Italian. Yeah, I like to eat (burp).

You can check me out here – yes, I am everywhere!  J

MUST READ: Long Haul by Louisa Bacio

LongHaulCoverI’d like to welcome to the blog today, for your Friday pleasure, authoress Louisa Bacio!  She’s here today talking about her first release from Ellora’s Cave, Long Haul.  Trust me, after reading her post, you’ll be adding this to your MUST READ list as well!  Without further ado….

*************

How fast do you go?

165 mph.

That’s how fast a car was going that I’ve been in. Let me tell you, it’s damn fast.

One of my former day jobs was working with automotive journalists. I photographed a few NASCAR Truck races, took a women’s defensive driving course and rose as a passenger in a supped-up Mustang, traveling the back roads of Nevada at 165.

Can you imagine how quickly the landmarks on the side of the road pass by at that speed? It’s whiplash speeds. Was it the smartest thing in the world to do? Probably not. But I was young, and fearless, and invincible, and – did I mention? – the driver was hot.

Fast cars. Fast men. A passion for life. Some of those items got infused in my first Ellora’s Cave Quickie, Long Haul.

Consider taking it for a spin, but make sure to wear your seat belt!

Long Haul

Between California and Arizona, there’s a sweet patch of highway that encourages a man’s mind to wander. Randy’s mind always ends up in the same place—traveling the smooth planes of Sallie Mae’s tanned legs and following the line of sweat that snakes down her neck and disappears between her breasts. It’s all too easy to imagine her naked in the seat beside him, flirting, stroking, even straddling his legs and daring him to find a better way to go than at eighty miles an hour with a hot blonde in his lap. The fantasy alone makes concentrating on the road a struggle. He doesn’t have a clue how he’s going to manage to drive Sallie Mae home from college while keeping his mind on the road and his hands to himself. Especially with Sallie Mae all too willing to flirt, stroke and blow the lid right off his fantasy.

Available now via Ellora’s Cave, Amazon, All Romance eBooks and coming soon to other eRetailers!

Enjoy the Ride!

Desolation Blog Tour: Top Ten Zombie Movies

Desolation 800 Cover reveal and PromotionalHey there boys n’ ghouls!  As you know, I really like hosting up and coming authors on my blog.  I like it so much that as of late– it’s all I’ve been doing.  But I digress.  More next week on THAT front.  BUT… I would like to introduce you all to the brand new book by author Travis Simmons, Desolation.  Now, I know you all think that all I ever feature on here is romance.  NOT TRUE!!  I’m a big fan of horror and Desolation is the badass zombie book you’ve been waiting for.  And as a budding expert on the subject of all things undead, I decided to let Travis give us the rundown of his top ten favorite zombie movies…. get your Netflix ready!!!

BTW… don’t forget to click on the book cover above.  It will zoom you over to the Rafflecopter website where I hear Travis is giving away a Kindle Fire!!  So all you folks in the US, get over there and ENTER!!!

**************************

Honestly, I don’t know if I have even seen ten zombie movies! That is what makes it so strange for me to write zombie fiction, because I don’t know a lot of the popular culture surrounding them. I do know that I have a huge fear of being eaten alive by anything. I seriously have nightmares of being ingested by a giant snake, so maybe that is why I am obsessed with zombies, some kind of morbid curiosity.

Anyway, without any further stalling, here is the list!

1.      The Walking Dead

a.       (I know, not a movie) Who am I kidding? This is an amazing show, and really inspired me to write DESOLATION. The show captures so much, it’s hard to even explain. The one thing I think it does amazingly well is portray the reality of how people would react during a zombie infestation. It is so real in more ways than makeup. These actors really act like they are in a zombie apocalypse (except for when they walk off on their own without a gun, I mean who does that?). The main issue I had (and I haven’t seen season 3) is there is no necromancers. I think necromancers fit really well in the lore of zombies, and so I had to write DESOLATION.

2.      Shaun of the Dead

a.       This made me laugh so hard. If I didn’t off myself when the zombies came, I really think this could be my group of friends and I. The scene when they are throwing records at the zombies was priceless.

3.      Zombieland

a.      Another really good movie. I love watching movies (or home videos) where someone gets conked in the head, so the scene where he hits the zombie in the head with the car door had me laughing so hard my friends had to pause the movie so we wouldn’t miss the next scene.

4.      28 Days Later

a.       This was a good movie, but it didn’t scare me the way Walking Dead Season 1 did. The idea of “the rage” was a really good twist, and made the zombies creepy as hell.

5.      Night of the Living Dead

a.       Though I can barely remember it, I know as a child the idea really scared me.

6.      Army of Darkness

a.       I didn’t realize this was a zombie movie, but Wikipedia says it is, and I am so very happy that I can add this to the list. This movie is so funny, I love every minute of it and the main character is just so charismatic and goofy you can’t help but love him, right?

7.      Serpent in the Rainbow

a.       I did enjoy this movie, up until the end when it became so outrageously unbelievable. I really want to read the book it was based on. The idea of a drug people can use to make others appear dead, and then rise days later is so compelling that it makes you wonder what else is out there, what else are we able to do?

So I think that is all the zombie movies I have seen. I even went through a Wikipedia list looking to see if there were others. Unfortunately, I have never seen Silent Hill (is that a zombie movie?) and none of the Resident Evil movies either, though I hear they are superb.

But it makes me wonder, what are some of your favorite zombie movies? I would love to her about them and why they creep you out!

Desolation

by author Travis Simmons

Asher St Paul thought it was just a typical zombie apocalypse like in the movies, until the necromancers crawled out of the woodwork.

Since the undead have chased the living into hiding, the necromancers are able to roam freely in a new America of their making. Asher is seeking safe harbor. The need for safety is what drove him from his home in Philadelphia Pennsylvania before it was shelled. He has searched from quarantine to quarantine, always finding them overrun with zombies until he hears of The Refuge, a military compound in Binghamton New York. With his family and lover lain to rest by his own hand, he has nothing left to lose and gives everything he has to reach the safe haven. But questions arise when he reaches The Refuge, mainly, how has he been able to sustain multiple zombie bites and not change? He thinks he has found safety in the military compound turned quarantine, but he was wrong. Even now there is a necromancer trying to make The Refuge their kingdom of the dead.

Blog Tour: Scent of Triumph by Jan Moran

CLICK ME to enter the BIG CONTEST!!!

CLICK ME to enter the BIG CONTEST!!!

Hello, kittens!  Happy Spring!  We’re back here at the Southern Belle from Hell to welcome a sizzling new author, Jan Moran.  Jan is here today to tell us a little about her new book Scent of Triumph

******************

Hi Alexandra, and thank for sharing your soapbox with me today! I’ve always been a fan of horror and creepy-crawly thing that go bump in the night.

People often ask where writers get their ideas. A couple of days ago on my blog tour I wrote about how I summon the muse, so today I thought I’d share more about how my work evolves. Writing is a different experience for every writer. Some writers plot heavily, while others are seat-of-the-pants writers (known affectionately as “pansters”). Me—I’m somewhere in between. I like to allow room for surprises.

When I begin thinking about a new book, I draw from subjects I know something about—or would like to learn more about. While I’m writing, I’d like to learn something fascinating, too.

Inspiration often comes when I’m walking on the beach or swimming laps. Sometimes flashes transpire in the middle of the night. (Always keep a notepad by your bed, even if it’s hard to decipher your midnight scribbles.)

So, here’s how I begin a new book:

  1.       Who’s the Protagonist? – Strong female protagonists     and entrepreneurs who forge their own paths to success inspire me. I like to share their fascinating, adventurous, inspirational stories. The character’s name, heritage, background, physical attributes, and inner life come next. I wonder, what are her passions, flaws, and dreams? All of this goes into a master notebook. Once she becomes three dimensional, I’m ready to move on.

2.       Where’s the Story Set? – Locations are one of my favorite things to think about. As a child, books were my magic carpets to the world. Travel is stimulating—I love to explore new cities, countries, customs, and cultures that I can share with readers. I find something intriguing about every place I visit, so it’s hard to choose, but France, England, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Spain, New York, Texas, and California (my home) are among my favorite places.

3.       What’s Her Job? – Once I know what my protagonist does, and what’s important to her, the story begins to emerge. For example, during my career perfumery, fashion, and business were my passions. I’m also a strong advocate of the entrepreneurial path. So, in writing Scent of Triumph, I studied forward-thinking female entrepreneurs of the twentieth century in beauty and fashion: Coco Chanel, Nina Ricci, Elizabeth Arden, Estée Lauder, Madame Carven, Mary Kay. These smart, gutsy, entrepreneurial women lived cinematic lives steeped in creative endeavors, along with their share of drama. Of course, future protagonists will have different career paths, but you can bet that it will be something just as interesting.

4.       What’s the Time Period? – I’ve always loved history, so it seems natural to set my stories in the not too distant past—within the last century. I also like to weave in generational stories, such as those of a mother or grandmother. Family relationships, especially children, are important to me, and often figure prominently in my work. And of course, there’s always a love interest or two…or three.

5.       What Does She Learn? – The main character’s arc, or what she learns during the course of the story, is vital for a satisfactory story. My main character has flaws and makes mistakes (like all of us), but learns from her blunders. Ultimately, she should prevail over unimaginable adversity—whether from external forces or against her own internal struggles (or both). For example, Scent of Triumph is one woman’s journey, a journey filled with courage and creativity, with love and loss, and at the heart of it all, a relentless will to survive, to triumph on her own terms.

Great visiting with you and your readers here, Alexandra! I love to hear from readers and other writers, so feel free to say hello on my blog, Facebook, or Twitter.

**************

I dunno about you guys, but I learned a lot from that post.  That Jan Moran is one smart cookie!  Not to mention that she’s written an amazing book. And speaking of, here’s a little more about that….

About Scent of Triumph by Jan Moran

Scent of Triumph is the story of Danielle Bretancourt, a talented young French perfumer with a flair for fashion and a natural olfactory gift. In the language of perfumery, she is a Nose, with the rare ability to recognize thousands of essences by memory. The story opens on the day England declares war on Germany, and Danielle and her family are caught in the midst of a raging disaster sweeping across Europe.

Her life takes a tragic turn when her husband and son are lost behind enemy lines. She spies for the French resistance, determined to find them, but is forced to flee Europe with fragments of her family. Destitute, she mines her talents to create a magnificent perfume that captures the hearts of Hollywood’s top stars, then gambles again to win wealth and success as a couturier. Her intelligence and flair attracts the adoration of Jonathan Newell-Grey, of England’s top shipping conglomerate, and Cameron Murphy, Hollywood’s most charismatic star.

Danielle charts her course through devastating wartime losses and revenge; lustful lovers and loveless marriages; and valiant struggles to reunite her family. Set between privileged lifestyles and gritty realities, here is one woman’s story of courage, spirit, and resilience.

Author Bio

Jan Moran writes smart, stylish, sensual sagas. She’s also written several books on Jan Moranperfume.

“My most recent book, SCENT OF TRIUMPH, was inspired by my love of perfumery and history. In writing, I drew upon my own family history and my mother’s memories of World War II, imagining a young entrepreneur whose talent, determination, and fearlessness catapult her to the pinnacle of success, despite mounting personal tragedies and the elusiveness of love.

“I write about strong, capable, female entrepreneurs.  I’m a world traveler, so I also enjoy writing about different destinations.”

Jan Moran is the author of SCENT OF TRIUMPH, a historical novel, and FABULOUS FRAGRANCES I and II, which earned spots on the Rizzoli Bookstore bestseller list.  She is at work on more series in fiction and nonfiction.

As a fragrance and beauty expert, she has been featured in numerous publications and on television and radio, including CNN and Extra, Women’s Wear Daily, Allure, InStyle, and O Magazine. As an editor and writer, she has covered fragrance, beauty, and spa travel for a variety of publications.
