Greetings! It’s finally autumn!!! Can you believe it? I was starting to think it would never get here. I know it’s been a while since we’ve talked, but I promise it was for a good reason. I’ve been finishing up some projects (a couple of which I’ll be telling you about in a couple of weeks) including the next book in the Phoenix Rising series. Neo-Geisha is book two in the adventures of Cage St. John and his beautiful badass librarian, Phoebe Addison. In this installment, Cage and Phoe’s new relationship is challenged by old enemies and a few personal demons that were lurking in the wings.
EDIT: This post was done before the devastating events in Puerto Rico. Seeing as how our “president” doesn’t see fit to do much in the relief effort, you can find out how to help our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico.
Hey kids. I usually try to keep things light over here at The Belle, but I felt like it was important to pass along this information. As you know, Hurricane Harvey has devastated parts of Texas, especially the Houston area. If you were curious as to how you can help these folks, here are some organizations that are organizing disaster relief (courtesy of Our Revolution, Texas).
The Texas Workers Relief Fund. A union-relief effort by the Texas AFL-CIO, donations are tax-deductible. The state fed has been closely coordinating with the Houston and Corpus-area central labor councils to provide material aid.
RNRN Disaster Relief Fund. Our ally the National Nurses United organizes medical relief for major disasters through this fund.
Coastal Bend Disaster Recovery Group Fund. If you want to donate directly for relief in the Coastal Bend towns hit directly by the hurricane.
Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. Houston’s mayor has set up this fund to assist with victims of Houston’s ongoing and increasingly dangerous flooding. Donations are tax-deductible.

Hey kids! You guys know that here at the Belle, I like to share the love around. So when one of my awesome author friends needs a hand getting the word out about their new release, I’m always here to help. Especially when that author is one of my favorite steamy, contemporary compadres.
Tina Donahue is here today to tell us a little about her new contemporary romance about a wicked tattoo artist and the nice girl who loves him– Wicked Takeover…
She’s just inherited a tattoo parlor…and the hunk who comes with it.
Lauren’s in a helluva mess. Not only has she lost her corporate HR job, she’s just inherited Wicked Brand, a struggling West Palm Beach tattoo parlor…along with the virile dude who runs it. Lauren’s full-figured, sorta pretty, and wanting him badly. Dream on. She’s here to sell the place as quickly as possible for some much-needed cash and score a new position in the corporate world.
Dante’s sinfully hot with a killer smile and beautifully inked biceps. He sees the heat in Lauren’s eyes despite her conservative appearance, recognizing the dynamite woman she could be if she’d just loosen up and have some wicked fun. Dominance and submission. Making love in a public place. Having her lush body always accessible to and ready for his.
Unwilling and unable to keep their hands to themselves, Lauren and Dante turn to carnal games and seduction. Until lust turns to surprising need and friendship to something deeper that might just change their futures.
Sounds like Lauren’s in a helluva mess that I’d love to help clean up. Whew! Anyway, the book is LIVE as of today– August 7, 2017. Check it out!
We creatives have perfect lives. We get up in the morning and make ourselves a cup of French roast coffee, then sit down in our underwear and blissfully pound out 5,000 golden words in our next masterpiece. By that time it’s just past lunch so that we can get together with our other glamorous friends to plot and discuss our last six-figure royalty check. Finally, dinner rolls around and we order something fabulous to go with the expensive bottle of chardonnay we’ve been chilling.
You know that’s bullshit, right?
No kittens, I’m afraid it isn’t like that at all. Most people in any creative field will tell you that this life isn’t for the faint of heart. You’ll likely never be super-famous. You’ll likely never be completely financially stable. Most of us have day jobs and obligations and soccer practices just like everyone else. To prove it to you, I’ve compiled a little glimpse into a day with Lexx.
7:30am: My alarm goes off for the final time after my husband Tally has attempted to beat it to death. I roll out of bed and into the bathtub. Mind you, this is the bathtub with the hole we’ve been fixing with epoxy for two years.
8:30am: I clock in at my dayjob as the jury coordinator for my county. That’s right, when you get pulled for jury duty, I’m the one you call and shout at. I begin answering calls with fairly lame excuses almost as soon as I walk in the door, in addition to helping folks with their court-related questions (What time is court? I forgot to pay this traffic ticket from two years ago and now they want to suspend my license. How much is my fine? I got served with a paper that I’m going to be coy and mysterious about so that you have to guess how to help me.). I put in my eight hour day at work. In between I try to get some words down (usually about 1000) and take care of marketing stuff (newsletter, social media, organizing events, researching ad space, writing blog posts– guess where I’m writing this).
5:00pm: I get home finally. Unless I have some other stuff planned (writers’ group “shenanigans” is on Thursdays, friends’ book signings, etc.), I try to sit down and decompress a little. I read books that I’m reviewing or beta reading, read for pleasure, play with my dog, peruse Facebook, or even nap.
6:00pm: The dear husband gets home and we cook dinner, do some laundry, clean up a bit, and finally manage to sit down and eat something.
7:00pm- 12:00am: I write, or try to write. That is not to say that I don’t get distracted. I have some shows I watch faithfully and often livetweet (@LexxxChristian on Twitter if you’re interested), but I try to write on either my WIP or sometimes blog posts if I need to catch up. I sometimes use this time to load up Hootsuite or create graphics for promotion.
When my day is done, I often drift off to sleep thinking about all the writing projects that I didn’t finish.
The point of all this is: don’t go into writing or any other artistic field thinking that it’s going to be an easy way to make money. Trust me, it isn’t. This dayjob is what pays my bills. I write because I love it. I write because I need to get the words out. I write because I need to escape. It isn’t glamorous, but it’s what I was born to do.
Available for Preorder NOW!! One of my favorites, Tina Donahue, has a new steamy pirate romance releasing on July 4th from Lyrical Press. What better way to celebrate the birth of our nation than with some real fireworks…
In a pirate’s lair, nothing is as it seems . . .
Shipwrecked! When Royce Hastings is found washed up on the shore of a verdant tropical island, he tells the natives he is a merchant headed for Mozambique. The truth, however, is far more mercenary. Noble by birth, the once favored Royce has lost his fortune and family; now he is a hired henchman on the trail of an elusive pirate. His “shipwreck” was a fake. He’ll stop at nothing to infiltrate the island and capture his prey. His mother and sisters’ lives depend on it.
The last thing Royce expects is to be captured himself. But the lovely young woman who tends to his wounds in the tropics quickly takes hold of his heart. Simone is the island’s healer, and her skilled ministrations not only awaken his soul but disturb his conscience. His path has been predetermined; his identity must remain concealed at all costs. Yet the passion he feels in Simone’s sultry, loving arms cannot be denied. With his loyalties torn, Royce must make an agonizing, unthinkable choice. . . .
Of all the people to discover him, Royce hadn’t expected such a beautiful young woman. Simone the other native had said.
She couldn’t have been older than twenty. Her light brown skin complemented her dark hair. The ends grazed her waist. He detected a bit of European in her exotic features, and island custom in what little she wore. Simply a red silk cloth tied about her hips. Her breasts were full and lush, begging for a man’s touch.
Wary that she might scream, he’d released her quickly and had expected her to run.
She checked his arms, hands, and head. He supposed for injuries.
At last, she finished and peeked at him.
Cautiously, he pushed up, hoping she wouldn’t bolt.
She sat back on her heels.
Needing an ally here, he tried a smile.
Hers was wondrous, broad and carefree, no deception or caution in her soft brown eyes.
His arrival would eventually change that. No better way to destroy a woman’s trust and happiness than wresting her from an island Eden to imprisonment, lifelong slavery, repeated rape, and birthing children only to have them torn away.
Guilt and shame churned in his gut. Fear for his family competed with the other emotions. “Are you the only one here?” Besides, Tristan, his crew, and the other island woman. Their conversation had mentioned Tristan, but not Diana or Peter.
Simone tilted her head. A tress fell across her breast. Confusion swept her lovely face.
Royce had deliberately spoken English so she wouldn’t know he’d heard her speak French earlier when he’d feigned unconsciousness. He next tried Portuguese and received her same bewildered reaction. At last, he used her language.
Her eyes lit up. “My people live here. Once we have you in the stone house, I can see to your injury.” She touched his thigh. “Does it hurt?”
Not as much as when he’d arrived on this shore. “My head is worse.”
She brushed back his hair, her touch as light as an angel’s.
Despite his callous intent here, and what prudence demanded, his lids slid down, his heart pounding as hard as it had when she’d stroked his ribs.
She explored his wound carefully. “I can make a potion to take your pain away. As soon as the men arrive I—”
Voices and footfalls interrupted.
Tristan led the way, his manner and appearance precisely as rumor had described: tall, golden skin, blond hair, and light eyes that offered naught except challenge and possibly death if anyone dared threatened him or those he loved. Following him was an equally tall man with long red hair, his face and chest freckled. Had to be James Sullivan, Tristan’s friend and former quartermaster during their piracy.
An adolescent boy, fifteen or so, brought up the rear. Gangly, as youth were prone to be, he had long dark hair streaked with blond, his skin brown from days outdoors. Diana’s brother, Peter. His features matched Bishop’s depiction.
Tristan, James, Peter, and island men trained their pistols on Royce.
The land to their side jutted out, rocky and reddish as those found in Madagascar. A white woman stood there, wind whipping her dark hair and simple sheath-like gown in violet silk. Her slightly rounded belly didn’t prove pregnancy, though Royce would have staked his life on it. She wore a choker about her throat, the diamonds glittering in the light.
Royce’s pulse pounded. Diana was here, as Bishop had predicted. Along with too many armed men, as Royce had feared, though all islanders, not pirates.

Miranda Royal, lead singer and songwriter of the band Little Queens, is about to headline her first tour with her sister Carmen, the drummer, and their bandmates. While being on the road is no new thing for them, the threatening letters Miranda has been receiving are coming more regularly and reach her in almost every city they perform. Focusing solely on the tour, Miranda tries to avoid everything but the performances and publicity the band needs to keep their dream alive.
Until Ryan King joins the tour.
Ryan King, Army Ranger turned personal security to the elite, has been hired by the Little Queens’ manager and father to protect Miranda while they’re out on tour. An unorthodox request combined with her adamant refusal to have personal security means Ryan has to go undercover as a writer for a popular rock magazine against his better judgement.
As he tries to find the stalker and grows closer to Miranda, he fights his overwhelming attraction to her, afraid it will impact her safety. Will one wrong move cause everything the Little Queens have worked for to come crashing down?
